Construction Site Access and Safety Notice
Starting Monday July 25th Marco will commence work on the new Quinlan Brothers Processing Facility. With the start of work, this entire site will be considered a construction zone and fall under the local Occupation Health and Regulation (OH&S) rules and guidelines.
To ensure the safety of all, only persons working on the project will be granted access to the Site by the Site Superintendent, Shawn Byrne, unless pre-arranged with Quinlan Brothers in advance.
All persons entering the Site, regardless of working or visiting, will be required to
(i) Receive proper Site Orientation
(ii) have all the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) the site demands – typical, but not limited to, safety boots, safety vest, hard hats and safety glasses.
Marco reserves the right to remove any person from the job site at any time.

The exterior design of our new Processing Facility for Bay de Verde has been completed, we are getting the site ready and Marco is starting the foundation work.

It has been three months since a fire totally destroyed the Quinlan Brothers Ltd seafood processing plant in Bay de Verde. During this period the company has worked with snow crab producers throughout the province to ensure that fish harvesters were serviced as normal. In addition, Independent Fish Harvesters Inc at Brigus and Green Seafoods Limited of Winterton, have accommodated Quinlan Brothers employees to provide ongoing employment to practically all displaced production workers at Bay de Verde. While the incomes of workers have been affected by that loss of the plant, they will have been provided employment to levels that will qualify them for EI benefits. Government officials remain in regular communication with the Company to monitor employment levels of those affected.
Quinlan Brothers Ltd continues to focus on the rebuilding of the Bay de Verde Plant. Site remediation was completed in May. In addition, geotechnical surveys and in-ground infrastructure assessments are complete. The Company has been working with Marco Group, the selected builders of the new facility, and an extensive engineering and design team to prepare for the commencement of onsite construction. The Company has ordered the building, and foundations and site work are expected to commence in the coming days. The Company plans to have a new snow crab processing facility ready for production by Spring of 2017.
Quinlan Brothers Ltd would like to thank all of its suppliers, employees, and other processing companies for their support and cooperation during these past months. All levels of Government have actively assisted the Company to manage through our challenges. We are particularly thankful for the support of Federal Regional Minister Judy Foote, Provincial Minister Steve Crocker, and officials of DFO and ACOA. We remain confident that with continued commitment and support we can fully recover from the loss.
On Monday, April 11th our community was shattered by the loss of the fish plant at Bay de Verde. Since the first moment of the fire, people were energized to come to our benefit. The first responders – fire fighters, police, emergency services, and their auxiliaries mobilized to overcome the fire and secure public safety. Their professionalism, skill and heroism are to be commended. It takes special people to accept the enormous personal risks to aggressively fight back and control the ferocious forces of an industrial fire such as occurred within the fish plant. The outcome was something that we all will be forever thankful.
Endearing support has shrouded our company from all quarters of our community – from within our industry (employees, harvesters, suppliers, other producers, and business associates at large) and from the public (educators, clergy, municipal, provincial and federal officials), and from you – the public at large.

Press Release – April 14, 2016
Quinlan Brothers Limited has reached an agreement with local snow crab producers Independent Fish Harvesters Inc. at Brigus, QuinSea Fisheries Limited of Old Perlican, and Green Seafoods Limited of Winterton to place approximately 350 production workers that would have been employed at Bay de Verde. These companies are all adding additional shifts of workers over and above their normal operations to accommodate the displaced Bay de Verde employees. Some of the plants will be scheduled to rotate shifts and operate seven days a week to process crab that would have been destined for Bay de Verde.
Quinlan Brothers Limited has secured employment for the foreign workers at Bay de Verde at two processing plants in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Travel will be arranged as soon as administrative details have been completed with federal agencies of government.
Our priority will continue to focus on finding alternate employment for the displaced workers at Bay de Verde where possible. Other processors are already offering employment to Bay de Verde employees and some have secured work at other plants. When all opportunities for employment at other plants are exhausted, we will be in a position to seek help from Government agencies to assist. The Government and the Company are in close communication in dealing with the employment needs of the Bay de Verde employees.
The Company is continuing discussions with other crab producers in the Province to work out arrangements to process all the snow crab supply it purchases from harvesters. Given the high level of support offered, the Company anticipates being able to divert all of its additional snow crab supply to other production facilities.
Quinlan Brothers Limited will continue to offer offloading services to harvesters at Bay de Verde as well as at its many other ports throughout the Province.
Quinlan Brothers Limited would like to thank all of its suppliers, employees and other processing companies for their support and cooperation at this challenging time. All levels of Government – municipal, provincial and federal are being kept informed of the situation as it unfolds at Bay de Verde. We continue to have many productive discussions and meetings. Quinlan Brothers Cooked and Peeled Shrimp have received an ‘A’ rating for the fourth consecutive year from the British Retail Consortium, the highest grade awarded by the internationally recognized Food Safety and Standards organization.
Snow Crab BRC Certification
Our Snow Crab processing facility in Bay de Verde has been Certified to British Retail Consortium (BRC) Standards. The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety is an internationally recognized food safety and quality systems certification program.
